Kevin Tang and Ryan Bennett present at Annual Meeting on Phonology

October 20, 2016

This weekend, postdoc Kevin Tang and assistant professor Ryan Bennett will present a paper at the 2016 Annual Meeting on Phonology (AMP), held at the University of Southern California. Their talk, titled “Against phonetic realism as the source of root co-occurrence restrictions,” presents an acoustic analysis of data drawn from a spoken corpus of Kaqchikel that challenges an acoustically-grounded approach to Mayan root phonotactics. They also present an alternative theoretical model that is articulatorily grounded and can make correct typological predictions beyond Kaqchikel.
