Contest Info

The first (Open) round of the contest will take place on Thursday, January 26, 2023.  Students who perform well in the Open round will be invited to take part in the second (Invitational) round to be held on March 16, 2023. The top students in the invitational round from across North America will have a chance to participate in the International Linguistics Open competition in the summer. Training Sessions

The Yale Department of Linguistics hosts training sessions to provide information about NACLO and to allow students to try out practice problems. The sessions will take place between 2:00pm and 4:00pm on the following Sundays: October 16, November 6, November 27, and January 22. Open Round Information

The open round of the NACLO competition will take place on Thursday, January 26, 2023. The exact location on the Yale campus is Dow Hall, Room 100 (the street address is 370 Temple Street, New Haven, CT 06520). The competition runs from 10:00am until 1:00pm.  Students shoudl plan to arrive by 9:30 to have time to settle in and be ready to start at 10:00 sharp. 

The competition is very challenging and is designed for high-school students. Middle-school students are welcome to participate as well, but we recommend this only for those middle-school students who are especially well-equipped to deal with this kind of academic challenge.

NACLO Registration

Thanks to the generous support of the sponsors, participation in NACLO is free. Students who are interested in taking part will however need to register to participate in the competition at the NACLO registration site. Registrations will be accepted up until January 24, 2023..
