January 31, 2017

The journal Language & Linguistics Compass recently published a special issue on Mayan linguistics, co-edited by assistant professor Ryan Bennett, Jessica Coon (McGill), and Robert Henderson (Arizona). The three editors co-authored an overview paper titled “Introduction to Mayan linguistics,” and they each contributed an article about their particular subfield (phonology, morphosyntax, and semantics, respectively). Ryan’s paper, titled “Mayan phonology,” covers topics such as vowel and consonant inventories, syllable structure, morphophonology, and prosody at the word level and above.
