Rikker Dockum receives NSF Graduate Research Fellowship
April 4, 2015
Congratulations to graduate student Rikker Dockum, who has been awarded a three-year fellowship by the National Science Foundation. Rikker is one of 10 students in linguistics who will receive NSF fellowships this year through the highly competitive Graduate Research Fellowship Program. The news was also recently featured by the Linguistic Society of America.
The research program that Rikker proposed to the NSF combines traditional and modern linguistic methods to study the Southwestern Tai branch of the Tai-Kadai language family. This includes fieldwork on Tai languages in Burma and the use of quantitative methods in historical linguistics to improve our understanding of the history of this language family.
