Jim Wood paper published in Nordic Journal of Linguistics

April 26, 2013

Postdoc Jim Wood, along with his co-author Einar Freyr Sigurðsson have a paper appearing in the most recent issue of the Nordic Journal of Linguistics. Titled Case alternations in Icelandic ‘get’-passives, their paper presents novel data on these structures in Icelandic, which have not been studied in this language before. By situating ‘get’-passives within the landscape of well-established case patterns of Icelandic, they are able to argue for the unambiguously verbal nature of the ‘get’-passive, and that the subject/recipient in an Icelandic ‘get’-passive (‘I got a letter sent to me’) originates as an (external) argument of ‘get’.
