Yale accepting applications for junior phonologist

November 27, 2017

The Department of Linguistics at Yale University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the junior level in the field of phonology, effective July 1, 2018. The ideal candidate will have an outstanding research record and promising research program addressing theoretical questions in phonology, using data from original field work, and potentially making use of experimental methods and/or computational modeling. Candidates will need to be able to contribute to the Department’s undergraduate and graduate teaching in phonology and more generally. Applications are especially welcome from candidates whose research is informed by the study of historical change or lesser-studied languages. The requirements for the PhD must be completed by the start of the appointment.

For full consideration, applicants should submit a current CV, a research statement, evidence regarding teaching qualifications, and two or three representative pieces of research to the online application by December 1, 2017. Applicants should also arrange for three letters of reference to be submitted to this website. We expect to interview candidates for this position at the Linguistic Society of America Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah, in January 2018. Applicants should therefore say in their application whether they would be available for such an interview. We also anticipate holding additional interviews with candidates via Skype in early January. Yale University is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer, and values diversity among its students, staff, and faculty. We strongly welcome applications from women, persons with disabilities, protected veterans, and underrepresented minorities.
