Zhenrui Zhang

Visiting Assistant in Research

I’m a third-year Ph.D. student from the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Beijing, China. My academic goals during my doctoral studies center on exploring the production, perception, and articulation of tonal variations, as well as their interactions. Another key focus is the mental representation of tone sandhi and neutral tone.

During my visit, I will mainly work under the guidance of Jason Shaw to explore ways to employ diverse methods—including productive, perceptual, and articulatory approaches—to investigate these research questions. My core interests also extend to other prosodic phenomena, particularly tone, stress, and intonation. Additionally, I am deeply interested in neurocognitive linguistics, as it offers valuable perspectives on the neural mechanisms underlying the tonal and prosodic processes I study.
