Xuehuai began their PhD in linguistics at Yale in 2025. Prior to that, they received a B.A. in mathematics and linguistics from Pomona College, where they worked on the morphosyntax and semantics of approximating numerals. They are interested in the syntax-semantics interface, diachronic syntax, as well as the connection between programming language theory and linguistics.
