August 10, 2015

Five members of our department participated in the 2015 Linguistic Summer Institute of the Linguistic Society of America. Professor Raffaella Zanuttini and Associate Professor Ashwini Deo were instructors at the institute, with Professor Bob Frank also attending. Linguistics majors Tom McCoy and Ethan Campbell-Taylor attended as students.

The LSA Summer Institute, organized biennially, was held this year at the University of Chicago, from July 6 to July 31. The theme was ”Linguistic Theory in a World of Big Data.” Ashwini and Raffaella each taught a two week course at the institute. Ashwini’s course was titled “Topics in Historical Linguistics.” Raffaella’s course, “The Syntax and Semantics of Discourse-Oriented Features: The Grammar of Speaker and Addressee,” was taught with Miok Pak and Paul Portner.
