Sean Gleason delivers talk at SLE 2016

September 6, 2016

This past weekend, PhD candidate Sean Gleason presented a paper at the workshop “Notions of ‘feature’ in linguistic theory: Cross-theoretical and cross-linguistic perspectives.” This workshop formed part of at SLE 2016, the 49th Annual Meeting of the Societas Linguistica Europaea, held this year in Naples, Italy. The paper, titled “How necessary is the Case feature in syntactic theory? Consideration from the Latin AcI,” provides an analysis of certain impersonal and personal passive constructions in Latin without having to appeal to syntactic Case. This is in contrast to previous Case-based accounts that have only been able to account for the personal variant, thus lending further support to the growing claim that Case may be an unnecessary feature within syntactic theory.
