Commencement 2014

Yale’s 313th commencement ceremonies take place this weekend, and several linguists will be receiving their degrees.
Five undergraduates will be awarded a BA in linguistics: Pat Killian, Maria Kouneli, Brenda Seah, Diallo Spears, and Patrick Verdier. See this recent news post for information about their senior essays and future plans.
Three graduate students completed their PhD this year:
- Mike Freedman is receiving his PhD this weekend. His dissertation, Frozen scope and grammatical optimization, was advised by professor Bob Frank. He has accepted a job in computational linguistics/data science.
- Ilkyu Kim received his PhD in December. His dissertation, Korean -(n)un, salience, and information structure, was advised by professor Larry Horn and associate professor Ashwini Deo. He is now a lecturer at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Seoul, South Korea.
- Kelly Nedwick is receiving her PhD this weekend. Her dissertation, Metalinguistic negation in English and Arabic, was advised by professor Larry Horn.
Several graduate students are also receiving MA or MPhil degrees en route to the PhD.
